Brief

Connecting people to solve manufacturing problems.

A powerful SaaS that leverages AI to match opportunities with industry professionals, ensuring successful project outcomes.

Manufacturing Exchange

In 2022, I was presented with a fascinating project: the Seeker-Solver Exchange. This project aimed to address a challenge faced by BennitAI, a community-led company in the US.

They had created a space for professionals to connect and exchange knowledge and opportunities but had reached a saturation point in managing these opportunities and finding the right talent. BennitAI was using a corporate network service to support their community's growth.

My task was to conceptualize and design a two-sided talent marketplace in collaboration with BennitAI. We aimed to bring an initial MVP (Minimum Viable Product) to life, which would be validated at the CSIA conference, one of the largest events for the industry sector in Denver, Colorado, in July 2022.

This marketplace would connect "Seekers" (professionals or companies with demands for talents and skills) and "Solvers" (individuals or companies with the skills to address these demands and requirements).

Actions

In this UX case study, we began by transforming the insights gathered during a brainstorming session into actionable HMW (How Might We) questions.

As part of my involvement in the Seeker-Solver Exchange project, I facilitated a Platform Design Workshop. This workshop was instrumental in shaping the direction of the project and identifying key elements that would define the marketplace.

We used the Platform Design Toolkit, a well-established framework, to guide our approach.

These steps allowed us to refine our understanding of the marketplace dynamics and informed the strategic decisions for the MVP. We leveraged the insights gained from the workshop to design a platform that not only connected Seekers and Solvers but also capitalized on the network effects driven by key players and powerful forces.

This strategic foundation was instrumental in the project's success, as evidenced by the positive outcomes achieved during and after the CSIA conference.

Mapping the Ecosystem Roles

To begin, we conducted a comprehensive analysis of the ecosystem surrounding the Seeker-Solver Exchange.

Ecosystem Entity Role Portrait

These portraits allowed us to understand the motivations, needs, and behaviors of each role.

Network Effects Analysis

We focused on the interactions between the two primary key players, Project Owners and HR Agents.

Identifying Forces and Drivers

We identified the key forces and drivers that were propelling the network effects.

Challenges

One of the significant challenges we identified during the platform design workshop was the need to accommodate different company profiles. Just as in Airbnb, where users can be hosts or guests, companies in this marketplace would act as both Seekers and Solvers.

Research

We conducted in-depth research to identify the core flows of the marketplace, considering both Seekers and Solvers.

Assumptions

Based on our research and collaboration with BennitAI, we established three key assumptions for our MVP

BennitAI would be a reliable partner for companies in search of Seekers or Solvers, and the screening process would be thorough to validate companies.
To promote the marketplace and reduce entry barriers, individuals and companies that were not yet "validated" would still be allowed to apply for opportunities.
Companies were interested in using the marketplace due to the industry's lack of knowledge professionals available at affordable rates.

Outcomes

Community Membership Growth

The introduction of the Seeker-Solver Exchange had an immediate and positive impact on the BennitAI community. We observed a remarkable 23% increase in community membership within a relatively short period after the MVP launch.

This growth underscored the project's success in attracting and engaging professionals and companies.

Partnership Building

One of the notable outcomes of the MVP was the creation of a new channel for building partnerships between companies. The platform not only facilitated talent matching but also encouraged collaboration and strategic alliances. Companies found it easier to connect, share resources, and work together to address common challenges.

This development led to the establishment of valuable industry partnerships that contributed to the growth of the sector.

Opportunity Creation

Within the first month of the Seeker-Solver Exchange's launch, over 200 opportunities were created on the platform. These opportunities encompassed a wide range of projects, from specific tasks to long-term collaborations.

The rapid generation of opportunities demonstrated the marketplace's effectiveness in addressing the sector's needs for talent and expertise

Economic Impact

Beyond the initial growth and partnership building, the Seeker-Solver Exchange had a broader economic impact. By connecting companies with affordable and skilled professionals, it helped address the industry's talent shortage.

This, in turn, contributed to the sector's economic growth, as companies could find the expertise they needed to take on new projects and expand their capabilities.
